As good as it gets. I would give Fathom more stars if I could. What a great group of people who motivate you every day to push yourself to the next level. I have been going to Fathom for three months and have seen a significant increase in my strength and endurance. I recommend this gym to everyone I know who is looking for a new place to call home.
I can’t begin to describe how fantastic my experience is with this gym. The staff is incredibly passionate about what they do and deeply care about each athlete’s goals, progress, and performance. The thing that really drew me into the gym was how inviting it was. I visited CF East Village and Invictus with very mediocre results (if yours are different, great. These are mine).
My experience with CF East Village (now Bear Republic) was that of 24-Hr Fitness with too much chalk. No programming, group classes were poorly run,and there wasn’t even enough equipment half the time. Invictus was similar except that the fame/success they received from the CF Games has made the experience as an average person a glorified tourist gym (walk in/give money/tag yourself at Invictus /get out).
Walking into Fathom was a breath of fresh air. From the moment I walked in the door, the experience was that which drew me into my first CF gym before having to move. Incredibly friendly and inviting with the old-school CF drive and experience that I think attracted most of us to the sport in the first place.
Definitely have to mention the facilities are fantastic! Especially after experiencing places where there was either not enough equipment or incredibly degraded equipment, it was refreshing coming to gym that has top-of-the-line equipment, HAS PARKING, and is CLEAN!
Alec (owner) has a vision and drive for what he sees/wants the Fathom experience to be for each person that walks through the door, and after attending the gym for a little while now, it is exciting for me as a customer to see that vision and success come to life.
Clean/excellent facilities/friendly staff. Dropping in is painless!!!
Fathom is everything you could want from a gym. They hooked me with their free week trial where they scaled the workouts to my level of fitness. The quality of workouts is amazing- the past two years I’d hit a wall with my fitness and was looking for a change. Fathom gave it to me- in a short time I’m seeing significant results and I FEEL good. It provides a great social and aesthetic atmosphere, wonderful staff (they’re all deeply passionate about their work and highly certified), kick-ass workouts…. plus i never have to worry about parking. I’m so lucky I found them and I cannot stress enough that joining fathom is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
I’ll start by saying I was super nervous to try CrossFit. I was worried I would be totally lost and wouldn’t fit in with people well established within it but, I was welcomed here with open arms. I broke my review down into categories so it would be easier to get through:
The owner, Alec, and all of the coaches are amazing (I’ve had the opportunity to be coached by Alec, Mo, Libby, and Dan – all fantastic!). They truly care that you are welcomed, informed, supported, and motivated throughout your entire time in the gym – not just the workouts. They take time to go over all the movements and scaling options and are always happy to answer questions. I also love how focused they are on form, making sure that you’re safe and getting the most from your work. It helps that they keep classes to 16 people or less so you never feel lost in a crowd.
The facility is great. Its always super clean, the equipment is organized and in great condition. There’s always plenty of parking and its FREE – a miracle for a gym so close to downtown. The location allows lots of work outside (running around the block, rowing machines set up outside) which I really like, why workout inside when we live in perpetual good weather? There’s always plenty of equipment for classes and during larger workouts (like Saturday mornings) there’s usually no bar work to accomodate more people.
I LOVE the workouts – well sometimes I hate them, but I love what they do for my body! I know Alec and Mo work really hard to put together weekly/monthly programs that give you a really well rounded workout – hitting all the major muscle groups but never over doing it. Its always new and different, keeping you on your toes (or pushing through your heels!) They also include supplemental movements you can add before or after a class, ROMWOD access to stretching and range of motion programs, and an olympic weigh lifting program.
The patrons are welcoming, fun, and super supportive. The beginning of every class starts with introductions and a funny question everyone answers. It breaks the ice and gets everyone feeling like a team. You quickly feel like a Fathom family member. I settled into a morning class and enjoy seeing most of the same faces everyday but its also fun to attend the weekend workouts, hero/fundraising WODs, and community events to meet people you don’t run into regularly.
All in all, I love this place. I feel like I get a fantastic workout in a short amount of time with an amazing group of people.
First off i just want to say i have never been to such a place that makes you feel so welcomed. The environment that Alec has created for this box is absolutely amazing. My wife and i walked in one night to just see what all crossfit was about and instantly knew we would like it. We than tried a free Saturday class and knew we would enjoy the challenges that crossfit provided. The coaches here are amazing and incredibly knowledgeable with the limits and movements of the human anatomy. I am writing this review as we are now being stationed in Hawaii and have to part ways, but know once we return to san diego we will return. Thank you Alec for such a great experience.
Just finished my 7:30 class and I have to say that was a great experience! From the very beginning to the very end, the staff was very personable and warm. For our warm-ups, we did a light jog followed with some burpees. The rest dealt with glutes. My instructor, Libby, knew I was new so she paid very close attention to my form. She also noticed that my leg was quivering a lot when I was holding the bar so she suggested that I used a medicine ball instead since it was much lighter and I would understand the form a lot more with the ball (It’s all about quality instead of quantity in this gym!). Other amenities include showers, wifi, and filtered water. The class was surprisingly small and intimate. I left knowing the names of everyone I worked out with and a better understanding of what crossfit is. I highly recommend this venue and their amazing staff/community! 🙂
Fathom CrossFit has played a major part in my fitness goals and needs. When I first stepped foot into this facility, I was extremely nervous and had no idea what I was getting myself into. The Coaches really take the time to teach you about certain movements and scaling options during workouts. The Coaches, atmosphere and the community alone is enough to keep coming here. I’ve been training at Fathom for over 3 years now and I am in the best shape and condition ever in my LIFE!
Let me start off with the mandatory: “I don’t normally do this but” line.
I moved to Denver not too long ago and if leaving behind eternal sunshine wasn’t already a bummer leaving behind my gym family was the worst part of it.
Fathom has been a family from the get go, I had trained at Invictus and two other gyms before I made my way to Fathom because I was not happy with the programming at any of those facilities.Fathom offered me a wide range of programming, building my strength and gymnastic skills as well as helping me increase my cardio.
The versatility within the gym makes it a respectful and awesome community, one in which someone is always willing to reach out and help.
I am now CrossFit Coach and love my current gym in Denver, but every time I go back to San Diego I still make sure I get ONE wod in with my Fathom family.
i will always consider them my home base!
Thanks guys for being amazing.
This gym is where it’s at! As soon as I joined, I immediately felt like family! The coaches always go out of their way to make sure you are getting the most out of your workout and your form is on point. Fathom is not the ‘competitive CrossFit bro’ place – it’s the best workout you’ll get with the best people! You’re always encouraged to do your best, and the programming keeps it fresh. See you at Fathom!
